Farran is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior CAD Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will involve creating and modifying 3D CAD models, producing engineering drawings, and assisting in the mechanical design of components and assemblies. A key part of the role will focus on supporting thermal design and analysis activities, including thermal modelling and validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in CAD design and an interest in developing expertise in thermal engineering. Key Responsibilities The post holder will report to COO and will have the following responsibilities: Mechanical & CAD Design • Create, update, and manage 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for components, assemblies, and systems. • Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with company and industry standards. • Work closely with senior engineers to develop design concepts from initial requirements to finalised drawings. • Support prototype build and testing activities, ensuring design accuracy and manufacturability. Thermal Design & Analysis • Assist in the development of thermal models for components and systems. • Support thermal simulations using relevant software tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Flow Simulation, COMSOL). • Participate in thermal performance testing and data collection. • Help identify and implement thermal management solutions (e.g., heat sinks, ventilation, materials selection). General • Maintain accurate design documentation and adhere to revision control processes. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electronics, manufacturing, and quality. • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team. • Communicate regularly with engineering, production, purchasing and senior management. Qualifications Essential: • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline. • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoDesk, SolidWorks, or similar). • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical drawings. • Good communication and teamwork skills. • Enthusiasm to learn thermal design principles and simulation tools. Desirable: • Basic understanding of heat transfer principles (conduction, convection, radiation). • Exposure to thermal simulation software or FEA tools. • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials. • Experience with prototype testing and measurement.
